My Failed Attempt to Renew My Malaysian Passport Jan 2017

I'm trying out another medium od blog post so I decided to try out videos. At the moment I think it is much faster and more interesting to create. Of course, this would be my first so the quality is not up to par I guess.

My family and I will be heading to Bandung Indonesia for a holiday end of this month.

I am planning to create a video of the trip very soon. Need to polish my video skills then.

This is a test post using Microsoft Word 2007. I've never tried this before eventhough I've been using Microsoft Word for like the rest of my working days.

Upgraded from TMNet Streamyx to TM UniFi

Last February 2011, 2 TM UniFi agent came to my house claiming that my area is within UniFi coverage. I checked on UniFi's website earlier but my house address was no where to be found. Since the guy said that registration and the even the installation is free, I then agreed to sign up. 5 months later, after I signed up again online and confirmed that my house address was listed, I received an e-mail that my order was approved and the installation will be done in July 2011. Apparently, TM UniFi's personnel called me up and inform me of an earlier installation date and I happily agreed to it.

Unfortunately, they broke their promise and didn't show up on the date. I e-mailed them back and complain about it and received a reply from their customer support. The installation date was pushed to the following week. Here's how the installation work was done:



There were 2 vans arrived at my house, one contractor is for the outdoor installation and the other is responsible for the indoor installation. Altogether there were 5 people.



I admired this guy who engaged me as the customer and did most of the work compared the other guys. Not only did he brought the barrel of fiber optics cable to the telekom pole, he drilled a hole in my living room.



He then drilled my kitchen wall to insert the fibre optic cables from the outside.

The next step after installing UniFi is to terminate the TM Net Streamyx and telephone line. There were several issues I've encountered after the installation:

1. I tried requesting for my house number to remain the same. Unfortunately the TM Point staff told me that I can't have my old phone number to be replaced with the new UniFi telephone number. So there goes my old house number after using it for 14 years.


2. The TM powered wireless router administration page is very opened. Even though I've disabled the remote access to the router, until now I can't seem to change the password (current password is just blank).


3. I spent 2 days configuring the TM powered wireless router to work on my laptop. Only my laptop couldn't connect to the WiFi, the rest of laptop, PC and mobile devices in my house could connect to the internet without any problem. I tried configured everything I know on my laptop, installed and uninstalled several drivers and software but nothing seems to work. In the end, I hooked up my old wireless router back and my laptop automatically connects to the internet.


4. After consuming gigabytes of data (I am a heavy downloader once in a while), I think one the UniFi devices crashed and both the HyppTV and the internet is not available anymore. This had occur twice already. The solution is to reset the whole boxes (Consist of the UniFi modem, Wireless router and HypTV box; Switch off for a few seconds and switch back on after that) and the UniFi services will be back to normal. Don't bother tinkering into the admin page or call the customer service unless if you really need to.

Overall, I am satisfied with TM UniFi services. There are moments when the internet line was really slow, I guess not all of the servers can cater for the high speed connection. The only significant improvement I've noticed is when watching YouTube where you don't have to wait for the buffering video anymore. The HyppTV/IPTV is crystal clear and at the moment I'm enjoying all of the HyppTV channel free for a month (1-31 August 2011). That's all for now. Sharing My Astro With Another TV

Lelong.com.my is one of my favourite online shop whenever I wanted to buy any electronic stuff. Earlier this year I entered a bid to buy a Wireless AV Sender which is compatible with Astro TV decoder. The reason for this was because I wanted to be able to watch Astro TV on another TV without having to buy another decoder or hack my way with those confusing wires and accessories. I won the bid at RM116.

For convenience matter, I think for a less than RM150 item is quite reasonable. If you check at Lelong (Type in "astro" on the search box) normally the item is sold between RM180 to RM420. I asked the seller to send the item using Air-Pak since it was an option given by him. I top-up another RM10 on the shipping fee for a more secured delivery. The next week, the item arrived.

After more than 3 months using this device, I am quite happy with it. However, here's a list of pros and cons on this little item:

Pros

Easy straight forward setup, lightweight, instant, no confusing wires

Cons

1. The display and sound reception is easily distorted when interfered by numerous electrical items such as microwaves, fans, blender, drills, washing machine etc


2. The reception distance gets even shorter when there are walls or solid objects


3. I still can't get the IR remote control on the receiver device to work

A Short Trip To Muar Johor

The last time I remembered visited Muar was when I was 12 I guess. 18 years later, I came back to Muar and have another experience there. Here's a collage photo I've taken using my Sony Xperia X10 Mini smartphone camera:



Interesting highlights (disclaimer: My own observation and personal experience) during our short trip:

• There are only a few hotels in Muar and most of them especially during the festive season will be full. Make sure you book your hotel as early as you can.


• Muar drivers are speed demon during the day and especially at night, be sure to give room for them to overtake or you'll get your car rear being kissed (our car got scratched on the bumper by some crazy motorcyclist who saw us giving signal and brake light but kept on swerving).


• There is literally no night opened mamak restaurant during my trip there at 2am in the morning.


• The beach in Muar is a no go. However, Singaporean people still love the awful scenery at Tanjung Mas.


• Mee Bandung Fuad is the best tasting mee bandung I've ever tasted.


• Service at Fuad Mee Bandung (opposite the main entrance of Sekolah Menengah Sains Muar) is super fast.


• There were so many stalls selling 'Kupang' on the side of the road during our journey back.

My Lymphagioma Treatment Experience at Hospital Selayang (Continued)

I was supposed to continue what I have wrote 13 months ago but that didn't happen. Since I am currently doing some web assignment for my company, I've decided to do a spring cleaning for my blog and resume what I had left on my draft list. I have like thousands of spam attacking my blog and luckily I update my blog to the latest Wordpress regularly. Anyway, I wanted to continue my previous blog post and finish it off with the end result.

After having my CT scan, I was then scheduled for surgery on the 1st April 2008 at Selayang Hospital. I've applied for a 4 days of leave from my company. Along with my mother and my girlfriend (now my beloved wife), I drove over to Hospital Selayang with my mother not having any food from the night before (a normal procedure before surgery). Checked-in the first class/VIP ward and waited for further instructions. The nurse took my blood pressure and sugar level and I waited for several hours before my turn for surgery was up. I had to endure starvation before the nurse finally decided to hook me up on the Intravenous therapy/IV therapy to prevent from dehydration. It was only until 4pm that I was brought into the operation theater. The nurse hook me up with the anesthetic mask. After that, I couldn't remember anything.

When I woke up, I could move but I felt like throwing up. I somehow made a signal to the nurse nearby and the nurse used a vacuum to suck away all my vomit. I couldn't really see well without my glasses so I just calm myself until it was time for me being delivered back to my ward. It felt very uncomfortable having a tube sticking out from my neck with a bottle attached to it. It felt even worse the last time I had the tube on my neck 11 years back. I vomited like another 2 times and I couldn't even pee until I got up myself and went to the toilet (my family member's didn't allow me to get up but I did it anyway). I spent the next 5 days in the hospital and during the final day, taking out the tube on my neck was very painful with all the blood spilling over. It was awe full. 3 days after that, it was time to get the staple removed. The doctor gave me 2 weeks of medical leave.

My Trip To Pulau Tioman (Feb 2010)

In December 2009, I finally got married. I didn't blog about it because my father passed away on the same month just 10 days before my wedding. I lost interest on writing blog after that and it took me several months to recuperate myself and my family having to replace my father as the head of my family.

In February 2010, since my wife and I didn't go anywhere for honeymoon yet. We organized a last minute 3 days and 2 nights trip to Pulau Tioman. We selected a 3D/2N package from an advertisement on 88db.com and booked a return ticket Transnasional bus ticket from KL - Mersing. The hotel resort we booked was a RM700 budget package for 2 person from Sun Beach Resort Tioman Island. My only comment for the resort is to change their bed. I can feel the spring inside the mattress. One more thing, the room doesn't have a TV so be prepared to do your own activities inside your room there.

I'm not going to write in details of our entire journey and activities so I'll summarize in using a slideshow below:



Overall, it was an unforgettable honeymoon and we are looking for more trips for the next coming years.

I can't believe I only had 11 blog posts last year. That's like skipping a month or blogging one post a month although I never made any promises to myself to blog at least once a month.

This year 2011, my goal is to fill up my blog with at least 2 - 4 blog posts per month. Hopefully this year I wouldn't become too much dependent on pictures when writing any blog posts because that was the main cause of me procrastinating updating my blog. Until my next blog post.

A Night At Tune Hotels Penang

Ever since Tune Hotels established 3 years ago, I have been wanting to try and stay there just to experience how the hotel is. Last September, I had the time and the chance to go to Penang after Hari Raya Aidilfitri to visit my mother's relative up north. One room was booked and paid online 3 weeks earlier at Tune Hotels Downtown Penang which total up only RM70++ per night. Arrived and checked-in at the hotel at 10pm after being stuck in a one hour jam just before boarding the ferry services.

Unfortunately the room doesn't have a TV, however it wouldn't be worth the resting time if you spend it watching TV. The bed was astoundingly comfortable. I wish my bed was as comfortable as the bed at Tune Hotels. Overall, I give this hotel a 5 stars rating and would love to stay for another night there.

In Memory of My Proton Iswara Aeroback

5 year ago, together with my younger brother and my father. We went for 'car shopping' to replace the current car I was using at that time. Check out the colour of the Proton Iswara Aeroback car before I bought it from the second-hand car lot:

So it is true that car paint can only last for 2 years. For the past 5 years, the car has been through a lot together with me. It also served my wife for a couple of months before we got married.

All of them were memories that I'll never forget. So back in July 2010, I couldn't afford the repair of the car since there were too many broken parts within the car itself. I had to let go of the car eventhough I still owe the bank another 2 years of loan. It was a sad moment for me but the car has to go either way:













The car is still in its original state, so hopefully, the next car owner could take care of the car even better than I am. BTW, I sold the car back to the 2nd hand car dealer where I bought it.

TM Net Internet Streamyx Downgrade

On the 29th September 2010, after much thought and consideration, my family made a decision to downgrade the current package of Streamyx internet. This is to reduce our monthly payment for TM services that we are paying. At the moment we are paying RM149.40 for a rarely used telephone line with 1MBps Streamyx Internet line. The internet line is the busiest because my family has 4 computers connecting using WiFi. My mother is now an avid user of Facebook since she uses the internet to learn new stuff and interact with her old friends whom is also catching up using Facebook as well.

I discovered from my brother and also other people using Streamyx 384Kbps that the speed was sufficient for normal browsing and casual download. So the decision is final, we wanted to downgrade the existing 1MBps Streamyx to 384Kbps. After making calls to 100, the best way to downgrade is to go to the nearest TM Point which is for me located at Kepong. Since the line was still under my father's name and my father passed away last December, I first had to transfer the account to my name first by filling up a form before I can apply for the downgrade (RM10 was charged for the account transfer).



TM Point Kepong design is quite nice and comfortable, as usual the queue required me to wait for almost half an hour before my number turned up.

The only thing that surprised me was that my internet line would be disconnected for 2 weeks in order for the downgrade to proceed. I then asked when will the line would be cut, the guy at the counter said immediately. So, I was out of internet for 2 weeks. I had to use alternative broadband internet I have which is the DiGi Internet Prepaid that I've bought a while ago but the reception in my house was really slow. I then tried using Daily Unlimited Celcom Xpax Prepaid Internet during last weekend, the speed was acceptable but the budget was a bit steep for me.

I made a call to 100 last week which the operator told me the downgrade request hasn't been processed yet. So yesterday I made another call where I got the same answer with an additional information that I can request for a rebate for the entire stretch of my downtime (that was nice to hear). Last night, when I got back from home, my internet Streamyx was restored. A total downtime of 15 days.

So there you go, that was my experience downgrading TM Net Internet Streamyx.

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2010

Hopefully it's not too late to wish all my readers (if any of them left), a happy Eid Mubarak or Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. My festive holiday was rather short because my wife and I are saving up our paid leave for a travel project we are planning next year. Hopefully our dreams would come true by then.

Iron Man 2 featuring Oracle

I watched Iron Man 2 at Cathay Cineplex Damansara yesterday. I have looked forward to the movie ever since I watched the Iron Man 2 promotional trailer on Oracle's website. The creator of Iron Man, a company called Marvel is one of Oracle's client. I didn't see the first Iron Man at the movies, I only watched it on DVD. This time, I had to go and watched Iron Man 2 at the cinema. I even had my desktop with Iron Man 2 and Oracle wallpaper:



The Iron Man 2 storyline for me is quite fast pace. The movie reminded me of Transformer 2 where there were too much action going on at the scene. My wife who watched the movie with me didn't understand the story in the beginning and asked me a lot many questions. I then told her bits and pieces and told her to just enjoy the movie rather than trying to figure out the story. Since one the sponsors of Iron Man 2 is Oracle, I noticed a number of glimpse of Oracle logo. There was also Larry Ellison the CEO of Oracle himself shaking hands with Tony Stark.

Back home, I did some Googling and found out that Oracle and Marvel created a webisode titled "Two Worlds" highlighting the Oracle technology being used at Marvel. It's quite entertaining and contain a lot of information regarding how Oracle is being used in the business world.



Check out the 3D illustration which includes Tony Stark (the animated version) as Iron Man.



Truth to be told, there aren't any ideal environment where everything you need is just at the tip of your finger. There are other efforts and factors to be counted as well. However, having a positive thought is good enough to keep things moving forward.

Back to Iron Man 2 movie. I love the action pack battle between Iron Man and the drones. I love the technology being used by Tony Stark. Overall, its a great movie to watch.

A Tribute to My Late Father

On the 9th December 2009, something really sad happened which affected the lives of all who are in my family. My beloved father passed away after a really sudden heart attack. It all happened so fast, only my mother had the chance being with him during the final moment. I was fast asleep in my bed upstairs at 3.30am in the early morning only being awakened by my youngest brother who woke me up that time. I didn't had a chance to meet him after getting back late from work the night before. He was already fast asleep.

Anyway, no one knows when or where your final moment would be so it might be best to accept fate that god had written.

Selamat Hari Raya 2009

It's 5am in the morning right now. Woke up earlier since I realized I have some stuff needed to be done online. Anyway, today's Hari Raya is slightly different. I was forced to take 3 days of leave since the company is closing down for a week. There were some miss communication within the company regarding the leave and the annual bonus but basically this year, nobody is guarding the office unlike last year's.

This year, not a single physical Hari Raya greeting card for me since I never sent one to anyone. Most probably because people are saving up for other stuff. The price of goods has risen drastically over a year and the economy for most people doesn't look that good. Myself included I supposed. So, SMS wishes and Facebook are now the preferred option nowadays.

This year's Raya would be my final year celebrating it as a single guy. Next year, hopefully I'll be celebrating Hari Raya with my future wife or if lucky a child as well. There are also plans for next year's Hari Raya, I would be celebrating it elsewhere instead of being stuck in KL all these years.

Oracle Demand Generation Training @Sunway Resort Hotel

Yesterday, I had the privilege to be part of a sales training at Sunway Resort Hotel next to Sunway Pyramid. The event was organized by ECS Pericomp together with Oracle. I did some Googling and found out that ECS Pericomp was just appointed as Oracle’s Value Added Distributor last month. Since the company I work with is a partner in some other products they are representing, they’ve invited us to come for this event. Becoming a business partner is not an easy task, my guess is they are looking for alliances with the others for them to achieve their sales target. Basically, leveraging on other people’s contacts, time and energy is the best way to kickstart their venture I supposed.

I wished the event was held after the fasting month, this was because I could have enjoyed the drinks and meal that were provided. ;-) Anyway, since I arrived at the place early (The event was supposed to start at 9am but the majority of the people invited only came in at around 10pm), I’ve gotten myself one movie voucher at Cathay Cineplexes (Thanks ECS).

 

4 years ago, I had the opportunity to come an Oracle event also at Sunway. You can refer to my blog post here. That was like a long time ago when I was just started off in the technology area. Bringing back the memory, I wrote that I was going to get an IT degree. Well that didn’t happen because it was just too expensive at that time. My mother just last week asked me whether I did think about continuing my studies because my younger brother had plans for it. I replied to her that I wanted to get married first and later on think about it. Then again, what can I gain if I pursue for further studies when all I can get is a better paying job. The question remains, is it a fulfilling one?

Enough about my ramblings, let’s move on to my sales training yesterday. The title of the training was “Oracle Partner Demand Generation Training”. Confused? Me too. It sounded like a name of product but its not. The trainer was a guy from Oracle, Nick Tielman. Before that, we had the Oracle channel’s manager giving a brief of what how Oracle company and product doing these days.

 

Getting back to the training session. Nick did a great job at presenting his presentation. I really like the first part which is the Goal Setting. That is one aspect that most of us or mainly me neglect the most. The rest is just like the usual sales training but from the aspect of technology industry which I also found is interesting considering I haven’t been on a sales training for a very long time. Anyway, relating this training to my job. I wear many hats in the company that I work with. I can still recall the time when I was a telemarketer and failed badly (this was before I landed at this job right now), it was one of the most difficult job I had ever done. I never enjoyed a moment of it.

Basically what Nick presented was a refresher course for me. However, I love the part where the Customer Relation Management system usage that Oracle themselves are using. I’ve implemented an open source CRM but hardly use it. There’s no harm in trying after learning all of what the sales training has provided, right?

 

By the way, Nick is from the Oracle application business development unit and what he had said about Oracle’s product is fairly true, with all the 60 acquisitions within 4 years and humongous amount of applications under Oracle’s umbrella, there is no way a salesperson could remember all of them. What they can do is basically get the ball rolling by bringing in pre-sales, consultant and tech-guys into the picture before getting the sales transaction completed.

What I saw yesterday was only just to sell Oracle’s product as if it was a box of software being presented to the customer and we need to close the deal as fast as we can. I am more into looking on how the implementation and services that we can provide because a lot of the clients that I’ve seen doesn’t have a clue on how to operate the software. Apart from that, the services and implementation area are more profitable rather than making a small percentage of profit margins of the product itself. By doing that way, the cash flow business can be sustained longer and the effort can be justified. I am just writing what come into the top of my head here.

Anyway, the sales training is a good approach in knowing what Oracle businesses is. I wonder if entering into Oracle University would be a good move for me. I guess I’ll have to look more into it as I reorganize my own personal goal.

Blogging From A Cybercafe Nearby My House

I have like less than 15 minutes before my 1 hour in this cybercafe ends. I guess it has been a couple of years I haven't visit any cybercafes. I normally used to be online whether at home or anywhere on my own laptop. BTW, I'm waiting for my motorbike to be fixed next door.

The feeling blogging in a cybercafe is different. My paranoid is the leak of my private information such as my username and password. Another is this filthy keyboard. I'm guessing it has a lot of germs and bacteria coming from all those kids using this computer. Oh dear, I'm definitely disinfecting my hand when I get back home.

It has been an occasionally rainy day the past few weeks. I reckon this would make a perfect gifts for the kids apart from the surgical mask to prevent the flu. Don't you think so?

A Quick June 2009 Update

It's been almost 3 months since my last update. I have been blogging less and less this year. My blogging momentum seems to be slipping away. I also haven't been logging into my blog for a while. When I do, I can see this:

Raw Unedited Video Footage of Citrawarna 2009

This year is my third year in a row attending the Colours of Malaysia or Citrawarna 2009. Unlike last year at Putrajaya, this year's Citrawarna was held at Dataran Merdeka in the heart of KL City. The different of this year's Citrawarna compared to last year was the number of dancers that were invited to participate. From about 1,600 dancers last year, only 800 dancers participated in this year's Citrawarna 2008. Even Laadvamore didn't make it in becoming one of the dancers this year so she wasn't so happy about it. Some of her friends did make it but most likely their pay was cut in today's economic downturn. The crowd this year was far less than last year at Putrajaya.

Anyway, I managed to borrow my father's digital video camera and recorded footage of Citrawarna 2009 from an amateur point of view. I don't really like spending my time editing videos so I've converted and uploaded the longest unedited video footage available on the camera. I'll try and finish off the rest if I remember to do so.

Anyway, enjoy this half an hour raw unedited footage of Citrawarna 2009 uploaded on Vimeo (Youtube can only cater for 10 minutes plus it's being blocked at various places). The fireworks were really awesome!!



Will definitely come again next year for the awesome fireworks display as usual!
