Recently I had the opportunity to attend Microsoft Innovation Summit 2019 at KLCC Convention Centre. I wanted to write more about it but I will try and find time to complete what is missing.
Anyway, it was nice to finally attend a technology event. I learned a lot of new things and I hope to attend more events like this.
After attending the ARCHICAD seminar, I had another event to attend which was a follow from my last meet up with IBM. It was a privilege to be invited to come to this event to learn about Nutanix solution and Lenovo hardware although we are just a small fry compared to the other attendees.

Anyway, I first encountered Nutanix during a visit to one of our client data centre. I managed to snap the physical hardware during one of my visits. I was astonished by the 42U rack only having a small number of hardware with almost 70% of the slots are empty.

The actual setup of Nutanix at one of the small data centre I've visited

Only after receiving the technical sheet specification of the server they are purchasing from one of our clients, I realised that they are now adopting hyper-converged infrastructure on the campus. It certainly is a fascinating concept where the hardware cost can be optimized to strike a balance between cost and performance.
Nutanix is certainly is an interesting hyper-converged solution. I also like Lenovo's concept of leasing servers at the client's office and only charge the local on-site user by the electricity consumption of the server. This is really out of the box concept to me and I hope my client would really like it as I do.
I've long heard about ARCHICAD but I never had the desire to try it out. Out of the blue, my boss asks me to attend a seminar about ARCHICAD at the office where originally they were selling Autodesk product. It kind of surprise me that they are not associated with Autodesk any more.

Anyway, I took some pictures for all my readers (hopefully I still have readers):

What ARCHICAD is all about

I am really intrigued that ARCHICAD still uses the dongle for license control. The price of each license is not much different compared to Autodesk AutoCAD but of course, you can't really compare the benefits of both software since both software has their own little league.

Why BIMcloud

Interesting enough, the BIMcloud is actually a software being installed on a host machine or a server where connected users operate their model or drawing files. I can't really say ARCHICAD is superior or not since I am not a heavy user of Autodesk product but the product can be an excellent alternative if you need an alternative tool that works. In today's world, we normally wouldn't want to be too dependent on one particular brand.

ARCHICAD is free to try out so just Google it and start trying it out.
It turns out that I only wrote a handful of blog posts last year. I know it was pathetic but I am working really hard to make a positive change this year.

Anyway, this was my 3rd year of attending VMWare's vForum in One World Hotel, Bandar Utama. The first and second was also held at the same place. The registration queue stretches from the lobby of the hotel towards the registration counter. The crowd was jam-packed but I must salute the host and the hotel venue for well managing the food for the enormous crowd, superbly done. I attended Google Cloud event earlier at the same place but the crowd was far less than VMWare vForum, clearly, the event organizer did a very good job.

I've been lazy to write or update this blog but determined enough to make a video using my rarely used outdated Camtasia Studio on my laptop. Check out my less than 2 minutes of video presentation. It may look crappy but I made the video in less than half an hour so imagine if I can spend an hour or two if I'm not that lazy.. haha...

By the way, check out the cool demonstration using Virtual Reality concept done by the awesome presenter on stage starting at 0.19s onwards. Very Cool stuff!
If you are an employee, don't feel bad about it. There are times when I wish I had the freedom of time, money and no boss that I need to serve. Well, I guess I never got to that situation yet. An honest confession, I currently have a huge debt of almost 3 times my yearly salary that I need to serve after trying to achieve the freedom of time, money and no boss to serve. I got cheated, duped and failed miserably. However, I know that I can bounce back stronger than before. That's how life teaches you a lesson.

Enough about my failure, I want to write about my experience being sought after by these job recruiters. A few years back, I had to change jobs because of some unfortunate circumstances of the company that I served at that time. Basically, at the moment I'm back at the same company because I can't resist the complacent working environment but I'll try to write on that later. After going to almost 10 job interviews, a job recruiter spotted me on this site called 'Monster' which was a big job recruitment website and hook me up with a job interview that landed me a job offer for big public listed local IT company. I chose to accept a smaller company because of the permanent status rather than contract and stayed there for more than a year.

The point here is when you are good at your job and even when your resume sucks, you can always try further on the next round like I did. I never had a degree in IT, furthermore, my only qualification is a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with specialisation in Automotive but how did I end up in the IT world. My only answer would be because of my passion. So, if you have passion you can definitely survive anywhere you go.

Recently I tried to update my Jobstreet profile after 4 years of dormancy. Suddenly a 'Job Opportunity' landed in my inbox.

The job description given was very interesting and if I was 5 years younger, I would have definitely grab it. So, if you are interested in a change in career or a job opportunity such as this one, do contact me or the guy in the screenshot above. I would love to communicate with a 'younger me'. ;-D

I didn't answer the topic of this blog post. Well if you ask me, a few ways you can try to get headhunted is to:

Advertise and expose yourself. Don't be scared to be different from the rest of your peers. If you have a blog, write about yourself on your blog, social media account profile, Linkedin or anywhere you can get spotted.

Register yourself to all job recruitment agency. If you found a job recruitment website, register an account with them. If there is a 'Job Fair' in your area, attend and drop your resume, your name card if you have one or a note to the guy or girl at the job booth.

Network with a fellow headhunted guy such as myself. What a headhunter would probably look for are recommendations by trusted sources. If I find out that you are good and there are opportunities for you to go further, I will definitely recommend you to the headhunters I know (I have a classmate who is an experienced head hunter).

There you have it, a combined answer with some of my experience after being absent from this blog for a while. I never thought it feels so good to write a decent blog post again. I should really write more often. Until next time my fellow readers.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-54707344177143454402017-01-21T05:25:00.000+08:002019-04-21T13:00:58.609+08:00My Failed Attempt to Renew My Malaysian Passport Jan 2017I'm trying out another medium od blog post so I decided to try out videos. I was exposed to the world of online forex trading back in 2005-2006, at that time the retail forex trading was rising up and I was amazed at how electronic trading was done. Yes, I got burned that time but I know that in any business, there will always risk involved. After a while I got sidetracked and completely forgotten about it. Thinking about it, it was rather wasteful of me not pursuing being in that industry since I got a lot of the technical knowledge on trading forex equipped.

After I had a career change at the end of the year 2013 where I got introduced back to the world of retail forex trading through a good friend of mine. What triggered me to get back to this industry was when I went to a seminar on stock trading. The huge initial investment needed for stock trading was a turn off for me since my capital wasn't enough to proceed further. The course alone would burned off my entire savings and that doesn't include the initial capital to fund a trading account. Luckily my good friend referred me to a free forex class conducted by a forex broker which I had used way back in 2006. Strangely, there were only 3 person attended the class including myself so I had the upper hand to learn a lot of inside things from the trainer. I then pursued for close to 4 months before I got the trainer to give me a special excel sheet containing trading formulas. That is where my retail online forex trading activity returned.

Enough about my Forex journey, let's talk about a broker that I've been using which has proven to be a reliable broker for me. I even got paid a couple of hundred of dollar just referring people using them (one of the many ways to make money online). The broker is called XM. Previously known as Trading Point during the time I got introduced to Forex 9-10 years back, in my country Malaysia, I believe XM is one of the top name in retail online forex trading. I've been to their office and a class (also free BTW) in Ara Damansara, their seminar at Sheraton Hotel KL 2 (Oct 2014) and their Gala Dinner at Bukit Tinggi (Dec 2014). They're truly doing a lot of aggressive marketing in this country and their turn out is huge, you can refer to their website for the event they've organized. Who doesn't like MONEY right?

That's the fun stuff, let's dive into XM platform technical stuff and some other benefits provided. Here are the pros and cons in my opinion:

Pros:

I like it when I make a deposit into my account, the money instantly shows up in my MT4 software. No need for waiting unlike the rest of the competitors. BTW, I use Skrill to do my deposit or withdrawal.

The minimum deposit is USD5 (or around RM20) which is kind of affordable if you ask me. The cost of doing this trading business is very low. I spend more than RM20 on a single trip to Speedmart..haha..

The Micro lot account is superb with the maximum leverage of 1:888, it gets even better although if you go for full margin it is not recommended.

There are all kind of MT4 platform available, I only use MT4 Windows and Android to analyze the charts but I execute my trade using the MT4 Multiterminal. There are quite a number of other brokers doesn't give their client the MT4 Multiterminal.

There are no additional charge for both deposit and withdrawal. So I save some money on the transaction made.

Their servers are very responsive, I've compared them with another broker I'm using and it is proven to be quicker and no re-quote.

XM gives 50% bonus on top of the deposit. So if you deposit USD10, you are given USD5 bonus so you have USD15 of equity to play around. This could be very useful if you are very watchful of the margin level (I rarely leave my account margin level below than 500%, its just to high risk).

There is also a 'No Deposit Bonus' of USD30 promotion since 2014. I've traded using this credit on one of my account registered under my wife's name and grew it to almost USD60 before I got greedy and emptied the account in just 1 day..hahaha..

Cons:

There are waiting period for withdrawal which in my experience was less than 24 hours.

The price quote used is 5 decimals (eg. EURUSD 1.26445) which I find a bit advanced during my beginning of trading forex. I would recommend for beginners to forex trading should start with only 4 decimals (eg. EURUSD 1.2644).

They deploy floating spread where during busy news announcement can get quite high. However don't be scared of the spread, based on my experience it the least thing I worry about.

So there you have it, my review of XM Forex Broker. Please don't ask me on how to trade forex or can I learn to trade from you or anything, I don't do such thing as I do other stuff for a living. However this online forex trading is something that I can get the hang of it and most probably be one of the things I would do when I decide to retire one day.

So go and check out XM broker by clicking the banner below:

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-51838909382935848142012-06-27T07:05:00.000+08:002019-04-21T13:04:49.891+08:00Microsoft Malaysia TechDays IT Camp Best of MMS 2012Oh dear, I've been so accustomed with Blogger that I find it easier to navigate and write a blog post on Blogger instead of my own hosted Wordpress blog. It has been a rough couple of months since my last blog post back in earlier January this year. After almost 5 years with the current salary, I recently took a month of unpaid leave and went on job hunting and finally landed a job offer where I then tendered a 2 weeks notice to start work next month. So it was all hectic and crazy the past several months for me.

It's been a while since I last attended any events so last month I was invited to a Microsoft event and I jumped on it. The event was 'Microsoft Malaysia TechDays IT Camp Best of MMS 2012'. Basically, I was half-hearted to come because I had issues in my job hunting quest. It wasn't too bad after all because, during the event, I got a call to attend a job interview. Anyway, I love photos and more photos.
Basically what I've learned from this event is the difference between a private cloud and public cloud. It was quite interesting and was helpful enough during my job interview session 2 days after that.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-60533996881245339972011-12-04T04:56:00.000+08:002019-04-21T13:08:17.348+08:00Attending The VMware vSeminar Series 2011I've been a big fan of virtualization since the day I've discovered Windows Virtual PC somewhere back 5-6 years ago. At that time, my thought was its free, its convenient and it triggers a lot of new ideas for testing purposes. In 2005,my team (consist of me, my brother and my boss) had to handle a software upgrade for a very well known big multinational corporation.. Their technical team was kind enough to show us a software called VMware.

I first registered myself to VMware email subscription in 2008. VMware wasn't really big during those days but I heard that they are getting stronger by the day. Earlier this year in July, I attended a virtual event conducted by VMware.

I notice that such event utilized a lot of internet bandwidth. I had my network guy screamed at me for using most of the bandwidth during that time of the hour. I don't really blame him, he maybe wasn't equipped to handle such an enormous request. Anyway, he left the company to pursue a better position. Enough about that, I find the virtual event to be quite dull since I can't listen to any of the web conferences because of the bandwidth issue.

Last October, I received an e-mail invitation:

I immediately register myself. At first, I thought the event wasn't going to have so many people. I was so wrong. Just look at these photos I've taken:

This was at 8.30am! I couldn't believe it. When the event started, the speaker told that there were a thousand people who had registered and come to the event. I then realized, VMware is huge!

Since one of my role in the company is to suggest better ways to manage the IT infrastructure for both ourselves and also to our clients/prospects. Virtualization is definitely the way of the future. My team has been fiddling with Oracle VM Virtualbox to maximize the use of our development and test servers in the office. So far, the only restriction that we have is the shortage of physical memory for the hardware. The cloud wasn't really a solution for us since we need to utilize what we have and keeping the cost down (although we have 2 virtual private servers running in the US for hosting purposes). Overall, virtualization has helped us in our IT deployment stage.

Back to the event, I must say that the event was way much cooler and more fun than any techno events I've ever been to and this was in Malaysia by the way. Kudos to the organizer and to all the sponsors for organizing such a wonderful event. Looking forward to next year's VMware vSeminar Series if VMware decided to conduct one again next year.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-87431504360858551952011-11-09T23:08:00.000+08:002019-04-21T13:14:45.033+08:00Oracle Technology Network: Java WorkshopIt's time for another workshop from Oracle. I arrived at Oracle's HQ in Level 23, The Garden. I guess they are cutting down on cost so the only goodies I get is an Oracle folder, a few sheets of paper and an Oracle Linux CD. It's okay with me since it's kind of annoying to bring along my laptop back-pack along with a bunch of goodies especially when you take the train to come to MidValley.

The first session was presented by Cipto Wibowo Herlianto, OFM Solution Consultant-ASEAN. He is based in Singapore and I believe he is an Indonesian by the way his name is spelt. There was supposed to be another speaker but he came in late, therefore, Cipto had to cover for him.

Cipto's topic was "Developer Experience with WebLogic Server and the Cloud" where he explained about Oracle WebLogic product regarding its features and many more things.

For me, the Oracle WebLogic is a fantastic tool to administer an enterprise application for a big scale environment. Of course, the learning curve would be a bit steep especially for those who had never handled any big enterprise application before. For those who do, the features can be really helpful.

Cipto also showed the audience a hands-on view of how to deploy 2 applications where one is the new version and side by side replacing the old version with a new one without compromising the uptime of the application. A feature where high availability application demands most.

My knowledge in Java is quite limited so I couldn't really understand what Java EE6 can do or could not do.

The second speaker is Chuk-Munn Lee where he talked about "Exploring Java EE 6".

I really admire Mr. Chuk-Mun Lee because of his vast knowledge of Java. He was also unafraid to tell the audience the truth about Oracle and Sun (He claimed he was from Sun) in terms of the product strength and weaknesses. Among some notes I've managed to collect:

GlassFish Server V3 - Is free and most probably the most advanced web server application in the market

JRuby - Is faster than the original Ruby

WebXML - Format everybody loves to hate

The use of annotation "" - If you have source code

The use of XML - If you don't have source code/file

Multitenancy in Java EE 7

Scaling application in thread - requires a lot of CPU

Some overview of JRockit and how it can be used to manage application

I've never heard of GlassFish before even though one of the applications my company is selling is using Tomcat and Jetty and based on Spring Framework. I think it's time for my company to focus on Java instead of PHP. It was also the first time I've heard of Maven and Hudson so it was an eye opener for me too.
Some of the materials being presentated were way beyond my IT knowledge so I had to pick up my pace on it using Wikipedia while during the talk. Again, I was fascinated by the dashboard showed by Mr Chuk together with his hands-on demonstration. How I wish I had the skills that he has. It was then time for lunch:

I could still remember the lunch I had during my last visit. It was fabolous. This time around, we were only served with packed lunch. Oh well, that'll do.

The afternoon session was the "hands-on" approach. My laptop was running at peak performance causing my CPU fan to work extra hard. I was left with only 13GB of hard disk space (Total capacity-160GB) on my ageing laptop. How I wish my company could provide me with an upgrade to my nearly 3-year-old laptop ever since my own laptop died on me because of overheating I supposed.

There was 2 hands-on lab:

Oracle WebLogic Server Development with Eclipse, maven and Hudson

A Step-By-Step Guide to Oracle Coherence

I only managed to finish the 1st lab. By the time I was finished, it's already time to leave.
Thank you, Oracle.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-32966944774047896822011-10-31T23:22:00.000+08:002019-04-20T09:21:11.774+08:00The International Construction Conference 2011 - Kuala LumpurA couple of weeks ago, I attended a 2 days conference. If it wasn't for my boss who had to go to Jakarta, I wouldn't have to attend it. Anyway, the conference was a totally different industry, the construction industry. This is a huge industry with huge players. The event was jointly organized by UiTM (my former university) and The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) which was sponsored by CIDB Malaysia. I have never heard of CIOB before so it was new to me.

The welcoming address was done by Associate Professor Dr. Masran Saruwono, Dean of Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying, UiTM. Opening address was done by Dr. Yeow Yoon Foo, President of CIOB Malaysia. Keynote Address and Official Opening was done by YB Dato' Sri Ir Dr. Judin Abd Karim, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, CIDB Malaysia.

A little disclaimer here. I am not from the construction industry and what I'm going to write is from my own perspective. If for some reason the information is not correct, misleading or gibberish, I would really appreciate any comments or feedback.

Session 1 - Paper 1 : Case Studies in Sustainability for Major Construction Projects: The Veritas Experience by Mr. David Mizan Hashim.

The introduction given by the moderator to the first speaker was quite lengthy but really interesting to listen.

Once Mr. David Mizan gave out his talk, everybody including myself became very attentive towards what he was talking. I didn't know that. It is said that PKNS wanted to fence the entire lake area in Shah Alam since it is located their private land. Of course there were an uproar from the people in Shah Alam so they decided to leave it open to public. So the designer proposed this design:

The idea was to open up the building so that the public can go through instead of around it.

The building also is targeted to score a Platinum Level on the GBI scale.

I do gain a lot of knowledge just by attending this conference but I don't want to write about the whole content of the conference. It's not because I am lazy or so, it's because this industry is not really related to what I am paid to work for. So, I'll just summarize this entire post with photo galleries taken using my mobile phone down below:

international Construction Conference 2011 Kuala Lumpur - Day 1

international Construction Conference 2011 Kuala Lumpur - Day 2
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-36491150775272827702011-10-28T18:49:00.000+08:002019-04-20T09:21:11.950+08:00Using Microsoft Word 2007 to BlogThis is a test post using Microsoft Word 2007. I've played around with Ubuntu and Fedora but I find it hard to adapt since I'm so used to Windows environment. Earlier this month, I was invited to attend a free half a day RedHat Workshop conducted by ECS Pericomp. Mike continued to share that a lot other organization clone the RedHat to become their own, one is example is the Oracle Linux where the OS are fine tune with Oracle products.

Now this is what the entire workshop is all about, "Virtualization". I've been exposed to virtualization ever since the creation of Virtual PC. From there, I moved on to VirtualBox and read a little bit about VMWare. It is really an interesting topic to learn and implement. I have a couple of ideas I wanted to experiment since my company has its own small data center and the aging servers are really hard to manage. Now comes the best part, demo:

In the demo, Mike showed how he actually makes a live migration. The Virtual Machine (VM) used is Windows XP. He opened a text file and without saving it, created an exact copy of the VM and launches it. The exact opened text file appears sort of like a clone. Of course this is no surprise for people who have been familiar with Virtual PC such as myself. However, the web-based virtualization tool used reminded me of Amazon Elastic Cloud Compute EC2 I've been playing around 2 months ago.

As much as I marvel all this new cool technology, conveying the virtualization idea and practical issues is something to work on. Overall, this workshop benefited me well enough thanks to ECS.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-18487196198391644632011-08-08T19:27:00.000+08:002019-04-20T09:21:11.226+08:00Upgraded from TMNet Streamyx to TM UniFiLast February 2011, 2 TM UniFi agent came to my house claiming that my area is within UniFi coverage. I checked on UniFi's website earlier but my house address was no where to be found. Since the guy said that registration and the even the installation is free, I then agreed to sign up. 5 months later, after I signed up again online and confirmed that my house address was listed, I received an e-mail that my order was approved and the installation will be done in July 2011. Apparently, TM UniFi's personnel called me up and inform me of an earlier installation date and I happily agreed to it.

Unfortunately, they broke their promise and didn't show up on the date. I e-mailed them back and complain about it and received a reply from their customer support. The installation date was pushed to the following week. Here's how the installation work was done:

There were 2 vans arrived at my house, one contractor is for the outdoor installation and the other is responsible for the indoor installation. There were several issues I've encountered after the installation:

I tried requesting for my house number to remain the same. Unfortunately the TM Point staff told me that I can't have my old phone number to be replaced with the new UniFi telephone number. So there goes my old house number after using it for 14 years.

The TM powered wireless router administration page is very opened. Even though I've disabled the remote access to the router, until now I can't seem to change the password (current password is just blank).

I spent 2 days configuring the TM powered wireless router to work on my laptop. Only my laptop couldn't connect to the WiFi, the rest of laptop, PC and mobile devices in my house could connect to the internet without any problem. I tried configured everything I know on my laptop, installed and uninstalled several drivers and software but nothing seems to work. In the end, I hooked up my old wireless router back and my laptop automatically connects to the internet.

After consuming gigabytes of data (I am a heavy downloader once in a while), I think one the UniFi devices crashed and both the HyppTV and the internet is not available anymore. This had occur twice already. The solution is to reset the whole boxes (Consist of the UniFi modem, Wireless router and HypTV box; Switch off for a few seconds and switch back on after that) and the UniFi services will be back to normal. Don't bother tinkering into the admin page or call the customer service unless if you really need to.

If you want to read a full detail story of what happened before the installation, you can read it on my Malay blog here, that is if you can understand Malay language.

Overall, I am satisfied with TM UniFi services. There are moments when the internet line was really slow, I guess not all of the servers can cater for the high speed connection. The only significant improvement I've noticed is when watching YouTube where you don't have to wait for the buffering video anymore. The HyppTV/IPTV is crystal clear and at the moment I'm enjoying all of the HyppTV channel free for a month (1-31 August 2011). That's all for now. Do leave a comment if you would like to ask me anything.

Cheers.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-65591479700235059672011-06-09T02:15:00.000+08:002019-04-20T09:21:11.037+08:00A Preview of The Oracle Database FirewallLast year I went to Oracle HQ at The Garden Mid Valley City for a presentation of Oracle Enterprise Single Sign On (ESSO). I believe this type of presentation and hands-on training is more meaningful rather than just a talk. In my opinion, the Oracle Database Firewall product is useful in an environment where things has been out of control where developers and system administrator experienced some sort of a battle cracking down each other. Basically it depends on which industry the product is applied in. If it involves financial, this product will become top of the line security add-on. However, with the alarming numbers of breaches, malware, spyware, SQL injections and network security ignorance by the IT people themselves, prevention is better than cure right?

Posing in front of Oracle HQ Malaysia

If you need more information regarding Oracle Database Firewall, here's two links you can download the product information:

Orace Database Firewall Architecture Overview

Preventing Database Attacks and Data Breaches with Oracle Database Firewall

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-48810875160867078152011-05-02T17:34:00.000+08:002019-04-20T09:21:10.860+08:00Seagate BlackArmor NAS 110 Centralised Network StorageI recently read about Seagate buying over Samsung division for its hard disk drive business. I have used several Seagate hard disks so far to store all of my digital stuff. Over the recent years, I only back up all my digital stuff on a portable 160GB hard disk drive. The 160GB was insufficient for me, therefore I had to burn all those stuff using a DVD writer and store it some place else. It was inconvenient and time consuming. I consider myself lucky since I never had any data loss even though my My Compaq Presario V3751AU Laptop ceased to operate anymore. My data back up practice is pretty bad. If for some reason my laptop got stolen or something bad happen, I'll definitely be screwed.

Therefore I made a decision to search for a back up device. I went for a short trip to Low Yat Plaza, after a few hours surveying numerous back-up solutions, I decided on purchasing this Seagate BlackArmor NAS 110 1 TB Network Attached Storage ST310005MNA10G-RK
device:

Seagate BlackArmor NAS 110 Centralised Network Storage

Seagate BlackArmor NAS 110 Centralised Network Storage

Well 1TB is too large for me. My data accumulated over the years are only half of the size. So far, I've only used 26% of what this NAS storage has to offer. There is a few drawback using a NAS, if you are on a wireless network, the data transfer speed rate can only go up to what your wireless device can take. Like mine, I could only transfer 6GB in one hour. That is of course if the signal reception is consistent or when I'm not doing anything on the computer. Other than that, unlike the Buffalo Technology LinkStation Live 1.0TB Shared Network Attached Storage LS-CH1.0TL(Black), this device doesn't have Bittorrent client to automatically download digital stuff I like.

Well at RM299 price, I consider this cheap for a 1TB personal storage solutions. Earlier this year I entered a bid to buy a Wireless AV Sender which is compatible with Astro TV decoder. The reason for this was because I wanted to be able to watch Astro TV on another TV without having to buy another decoder or hack my way with those confusing wires and accessories. I won the bid at RM116.

Winning Bid-Genuine OEM Pakite 2.4G Wirelss AV Sender Astro Camera CCTV DVD

For convenience matter, I think for a less than RM150 item is quite reasonable. If you check at Lelong (Type in "astro" on the search box) normally the item is sold between RM180 to RM420. I asked the seller to send the item using Air-Pak since it was an option given by him. I top-up another RM10 on the shipping fee for a more secured delivery. The next week, the item arrived.

Airpak Express packing

One wireless AV sender and one wireless AV receiver

Genuine OEM Pakite 2.4G Wireless AV Sender Astro Camera CCTV DVD packager

After more than 3 months using this device, I am quite happy with it. The reason was because my wife had some complications over her pregnancy and we finally had to decide our first baby go. It was kind of hard to accept the recommendation by the doctor at first, however after thinking long and hard, it had to be done sooner or later.

Anyway, what I wanted to write about in this blog post is the parking at HKL. If you've never been to HKL before, unlike Selayang Hospital, HKL is an old hospital and the different department are located further apart instead of just in one building. The parking inside HKL is rather limited and you'll even have to fight for a space with the HKL staff themselves and that was at their open parking which is opened to the public.

HKL Open Parking Space

Here's a tip for you. If you want to visit any relatives or friends and you want to get a nearer parking space, try and come after 4pm. That is of course if the visiting hours are permissible for the ward you're visiting.

Alright, here's the HKL parking rate as of March 2011:

HKL Parking Rate

Information from my brother in law who works in HKL, the parking operator is newly appointed. The previous operator's contract expired and the HKL management discontinued their contract. Hopefully HKL can improve their facilities in order to accommodate their ever increasing patients numbers.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-23593554947592075962011-03-13T23:27:00.000+08:002019-04-21T16:35:14.048+08:00A Short Trip To Muar JohorThe last time I remembered visited Muar was when I was 12 I guess. 18 years later, I came back to Muar and have another experience there. Here's a collage photo I've taken using my Sony Xperia X10 Mini smartphone camera:

Interesting highlights (disclaimer: My own observation and personal experience) during our short trip:

There are only a few hotels in Muar and most of them especially during the festive season will be full. Make sure you book your hotel as early as you can.

Muar drivers are speed demon during the day and especially at night, be sure to give room for them to overtake or you'll get your car rear being kissed (our car got scratched on the bumper by some crazy motorcyclist who saw us giving signal and brake light but kept on swerving).

There is literally no night opened mamak restaurant during my trip there at 2am in the morning.

The beach in Muar is a no go. However, Singaporean people still love the awful scenery at Tanjung Mas.

Mee Bandung Fuad is the best tasting mee bandung I've ever tasted.

Service at Fuad Mee Bandung (opposite the main entrance of Sekolah Menengah Sains Muar) is super fast.

There were so many stalls selling 'Kupang' on the side of the road during our journey back.

He couldn't make use of the free complimentary ticket and gave away the ticket to us because the ticket expiry date was getting close. By then, we only had less than a month of preparation for this trip.

Anyway, cut the story short, we have managed to get all the arrangement done in time. This include, gathering all of phuket and patong beach information blog various blog and websites, getting a reasonable accommodation place near to Patong Beach, my wife's international passport and most importantly information about halal food to eat when we reach there. I skipped 2 items, one is to arrange taxi from Phuket International Airport to Patong beach and two, arrangement for tour during our short visit at Patong Beach. I'll let you know why afterwards.

Here's a full gallery of our trip to Patong Beach, Phuket Thailand (271 photos divided into 3 days):

Alright, firstly if you pre-arrange your taxi, you'll probably would have paid 200 baht more. I only paid 500 baht to the taxi driver. There is one thing which was quite scary, the taxi drove 120 - 130km/h and this was on a normal road since there were no highways in Phuket. I was sitting on the edge of my seat the entire journey..goshh..Secondly, tour package is available everywhere in Patong Beach. There was like a stall or a booth everywhere I walk at the stretch on Patong Beach streets. During my first day at Patong Beach, I guess I walked almost 10km, took a tuk-tuk ride, slept in the hotel because of exhaustion until the evening, searched and found the most talked about Malay-Thai Kusuma Restaurant (the best tom yam soup I've ever had in my life) and had my feet massaged by the end of day.

During the second day, went for a cruiser trip to Phi-phi Island. Came back and had tom yam and seafood again at Kusuma Restaurant. Went shopping a little bit, took pictures and walked along Bangla Road.

Final day before returning home, we hired this Malay speaking taxi driver, went shopping for souvenirs and took the flight home.

It has been 14 years since I last boarded a flight. It was one of my most memorable experience travelling to a foreign country together with my loved one. I'll sure be coming back to Phuket whenever I get a chance to go there again.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-48185312500998728592011-01-18T01:36:00.000+08:002019-04-20T09:21:09.707+08:00My Lymphagioma Treatment Experience at Hospital Selayang (Continued)I was supposed to continue what I have wrote 13 months ago but that didn't happen. Since I am currently doing some web assignment for my company, I've decided to do a spring cleaning for my blog and resume what I had left on my draft list. I have like thousands of spam attacking my blog and luckily I update my blog to the latest Wordpress regularly. Anyway, I wanted to continue my previous blog post and finish it off with the end result.

After having my CT scan, I was then scheduled for surgery on the 1st April 2008 at Selayang Hospital. I've applied for a 4 days of leave from my company. Along with my mother and my girlfriend (now my beloved wife), I drove over to Hospital Selayang with my mother not having any food from the night before (a normal procedure before surgery). Checked-in the first class/VIP ward and waited for further instructions. The nurse took my blood pressure and sugar level and I waited for several hours before my turn for surgery was up. I had to endure starvation before the nurse finally decided to hook me up on the Intravenous therapy/IV therapy to prevent from dehydration. It was only until 4pm that I was brought into the operation theater. The nurse hook me up with the anesthetic mask. After that, I couldn't remember anything.

When I woke up, I could move but I felt like throwing up. I somehow made a signal to the nurse nearby and the nurse used a vacuum to suck away all my vomit. I couldn't really see well without my glasses so I just calm myself until it was time for me being delivered back to my ward. It felt very uncomfortable having a tube sticking out from my neck with a bottle attached to it. It felt even worse the last time I had the tube on my neck 11 years back. I vomited like another 2 times and I couldn't even pee until I got up myself and went to the toilet (my family member's didn't allow me to get up but I did it anyway). I spent the next 5 days in the hospital and during the final day, taking out the tube on my neck was very painful with all the blood spilling over. It was awe full. 3 days after that, it was time to get the staple removed. The doctor gave me 2 weeks of medical leave.

Anyway, here's a slideshow of the my experience before and after my lymphagioma surgery:

If you have any inquiries regarding my symptoms (swelling on the neck or lump on the neck), what treatment I had to go through and other stuff, feel free to comment below. I didn't blog about it because my father passed away on the same month just 10 days before my wedding. I lost interest on writing blog after that and it took me several months to recuperate myself and my family having to replace my father as the head of my family.

In February 2010, since my wife and I didn't go anywhere for honeymoon yet. We organized a last minute 3 days and 2 nights trip to Pulau Tioman. We selected a 3D/2N package from an advertisement on 88db.com and booked a return ticket Transnasional bus ticket from KL - Mersing. The hotel resort we booked was a RM700 budget package for 2 person from Sun Beach Resort Tioman Island. My only comment for the resort is to change their bed. I can feel the spring inside the mattress. One more thing, the room doesn't have a TV so be prepared to do your own activities inside your room there.

I'm not going to write in details of our entire journey and activities so I'll summarize in using a slideshow below:

Overall, it was an unforgettable honeymoon and we are looking for more trips for the next coming years.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-15261594480730206022011-01-04T20:11:00.000+08:002019-04-21T16:42:18.690+08:00My 2010 Blog Re-Cap | Hello 2011I can't believe I only had 11 blog posts last year. That's like skipping a month or blogging one post a month although I never made any promises to myself to blog at least once a month.

Anyway, I guess making promises or new year's resolution won't propel myself forward. So I am thinking of making smaller objectives for this blog as a resource to share my own little information I've gathered to the world. Before I do that, I'll recap what I've blogged last year.

March 2010

In March 2010, I wrote 3 blog posts:

A Tribute to My Late Father

My Latest Ride – Mercedes 230E

My Own Shirt Store: Aisy T-Shirt House

During January 2010 to March 2010, I was still recuperating from my father's passing apart from putting my life back together and building up my new family. It was tough having to juggle between being my father's successor leading the family and becoming a husband. My Shirt Store is now closed and my ride now becomes smaller (I'm going to sell off the Mercedes 230E soon). A lot of things have changed and it will still be changing very soon.

May 2010

Didn't write at all in April 2010. Only wrote one blog post about one movie I went to:
Sold off my car in July 2010 but only blogged about it in November. I have so many other lists of things to blog about but only kept it on my draft box. I really should be shooting out the blog post without worrying about photos and other stuff.
There was a lot of blog post which was significant which got missed out. One of them is my wedding on December 2009 which happened 10 days after my father's passing, an event on May 2010 plus a brand new car for me and my wife on the same month, a PHP Meet Up 2010 in June and a whole bunch more after I sold off my Sony Ericsson W810i.
This year 2011, my goal is to fill up my blog with at least 2 - 4 blog posts per month. Hopefully this year I wouldn't become too much dependent on pictures when writing any blog posts because that was the main cause of me procrastinating updating my blog. Until my next blog post.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6887365.post-72088198799275374912010-12-10T20:01:00.000+08:002019-04-20T09:21:08.936+08:00The Best Daily Mobile Internet Prepaid Option in MalaysiaWe all have different need of internet usage. I normally use an average of 400 - 500MB (upload and download data transfer) usage per day. Total that up for one month, that would take up almost 15GB per month of data usage. However I find it hard to reach 15GB per month except if I am on a downloading quest for movies and videos stuff. The best internet option for me will always be TM Net Streamyx. However when I go travel for example like right now I am in Tambun Ipoh, I would bring along my Huawei E220 USB modem which is powered by DiGi Internet Prepaid. Lucky for me, my in law's house is within the area of 3G Internet Broadband services for all the Telcos available.

A couple of months ago, I have no issue with DiGi Internet Prepaid as it serves my purpose quite well. Although the top download speed is capped at 384kbps, watching YouTube videos has not been a problem. The download quota of 3GB per month never been exceeded as I only use the pre-paid internet line for 3 - 4 days sometimes 10 days per month. At RM2 per day, it was the perfect internet replacement for me while on the go.

After haven't been travelling for a while, I realized something new happened. I got this SMS in my Mobile Connect application:

You have reached the 100 MB daily quota. However you will continue to enjoy unlimited Internet usage at 128kbps until the next quota reset at 12am

I was shocked. Immediately the internet speed dropped and my download was downgraded. This is not a good sign. I did some Googling just now using the now throttled internet speed of 128kbps:

DiGi Internet Prepaid

Oh dear, I need to find a solution for this. I did some checking around:

Maxis Hotlink Internet Prepaid

Celcom Broadband Prepaid

I am a Maxis postpaid user on my Sony Xperia X10 Mini. However Maxis has the most expensive plan with RM8/day and only 500MB per day. I also have a DiGi Prepaid sim-card which I hardly use, at RM5/day and only 100MB per day, this is even pricier than my DiGi Internet Prepaid at RM2/day. The best option for me right now is to go for Celcom Broadband Prepaid at RM6/day with 1GB per day.

I should make a comparison table for this but I am too lazy to do it right now. Now, I need to find myself a Celcom Broadband Prepaid™ Pack somewhere here in Ipoh.

Update 1st February 2011: I subscribed to Celcom Broadband Prepaid on Celcom Blue for RM18 weekly (Sim Card cost me only RM3 during a promotion). The line only managed EDGE connection with unstable internet connection even on the 18th Floor of Menara PJD, Kuala Lumpur. The same goes when I was in Tambun Ipoh. So, it was a no go for Celcom Broadband Prepaid for me.

Update 12th February 2011: I bought Celcom Broadband Prepaid pack just now at a Celcom partner's booth (Only RM12.50) at Giant Ipoh (Tried to buy one at Celcom Blue Sunway Pyramid but they said they ran out of stock). I realized that the Celcom Blue sim-card doesn't have 3G capabilities which is why I couldn't get a good speed the last time I tried. I am now on HSDPA line powered by Celcom Broadband Prepaid.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1
